(F-1807) Restaurant Recognition: Would You Like Water Savings With Your Order?
Fewer than 25% of utilities surveyed in 2016 by AWWA indicated that they had formal conservation programs directed at their commercial and institutional (CI) customers. Restaurants were one of the top 5 subcategories of CI customers targeted by those utilities who had a program. While there are certainly opportunities for reducing water use in restaurants, it can be a challenge to work with them due to management structures (e.g., franchises), employee hours, and staff turnover. Simply providing information may not be sufficient to spur savings. As a means to increase engagement with restaurants, several utilities have developed recognition programs that provide restaurants with a way to demonstrate that they are contributing to sustainability in their communities. Invited speakers will talk about the nuts and bolts of setting up and implementing their programs. Youâ€™ll learn what has and has not worked, as well as how the utilities believe the programs are helping to accomplish the goals of reducing water use and raising awareness. Attendees will leave with information that will allow them to consider whether a restaurant recognition program could work for their community.
