Nobel Prize sharing scientist Jonathan Overpeck to keynote 13th WSI Conference & Expo
In 2008, Jonathan Overpeck delivered an engaging address to the inaugural WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition. His sobering presentation expanded our understanding of how climate change would influence the dynamics of water supply and virtually every other aspect of our terrestrial environment.
We’re honored to have this Nobel Prize sharing scientist join us again on this critical topic for the 13th WSI event, Oct. 6-7 in Las Vegas. In addition to addressing this summer’s headline grabbing climate impacts, Overpeck will discuss impacts that have yet to manifest themselves and how we can better prepare to meet these ever-accelerating climate challenges.
Overpeck, an interdisciplinary climate scientist, William B. Stapp Collegiate Professor of Environmental Education and the Samuel A. Graham Dean of the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, works on a broad range of topics relating to how climate and paleoclimate dynamics affect the world we live in. These include climate-vegetation interaction, conservation biology, legal issues related to climate change, environmental communication and environmental education.
He has led climate research programs on five continents, focused on understanding climate variability, and the dynamics and risks associated with drought and megadrought, and has written more than 220 published works on climate and the environmental sciences. He also served as a Working Group 1 Coordinating Lead Author for the Nobel Prize-winning IPCC 4th Assessment (2007), and also as a Working Group 2 Lead Author for the IPCC 5th Assessment (2014).
Overpeck has appeared and testified before Congress multiple times, and is a Fellow of American Geophysical Union and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. You can follow “Peck” as he tweets about climate-related issues at @GreatLakesPeck.
